On what is going to be one of the hottest days of the year, a local plant is putting its workers health ahead of productivity. Armtec Precon sent home 73 workers this morning by 11AM, as the temperature soared close to 30 degrees before the day even really started. Operations Manager Bill Sheldon. "Very very early in the morning, it was already at the point where we needed to give guys a 15-minute break every hour. That was at 8 o'clock this morning. Obviously the weather forecast says this is going to be the toastiest day of the year, so we made the decision it would be better for our guys if we didn't ask them to work today." Armtec produces large scale concrete products. Sheldon says their workers not only face the heat from the sun and humidity from the air, but also radiated heat off of the large steel beds they work off of. Sheldon says it comes down to a simple principle, "We like to make sure we're producing safely. We put the well-being of our workers ahead of production."
