Police are warning the public about a new scam where the fraudsters pose as bank investigators.
OXFORD COUNTY - The OPP are warning the public about another scam making the rounds in the region.
It is known as the "Bank Investigator Scam". The scam likes to target seniors and how it works is someone will call you pretending to be a bank investigator. They will tell you that they need your help to catch a bank employee that has been stealing money by giving out counterfeit bills and pocketing the actual money. The victim is instructed to go to their bank and make a cash withdrawal and then meet the fraudster at a nearby parking lot where the cash is turned over.
In one occasion recently a senior lost $6,000 to a fake investigator who implied the money was indeed counterfeit based on the serial numbers.
