The public is invited to the Colombo Club in Beachville to offer feedback on potential amendments to waste management policies.
BEACHVILLE - Residents of Oxford County are invited to the Colombo Club in Beachville on Tuesday night for a public information meeting starting at 6:30 p.m.
County staff have been looking at their planning policies and waste management policies since 2013 in response to the proposal of having a private landfill moving into Oxford. Director of Community and Strategic Planning Gord Hough says the public is welcome to come listen to potential amendments to the policies and they can also offer up some feedback.
"In October of 2013, in response to interest that was being shown to establish a private landfill facility in Oxford County, council had resolved to ask our office to look at our land use policies to determine if there is something different that can be done in our waste management policies. We typically always have public meetings with our planning applications but this is an issue that we felt was important enough and we are calling in a public information session. So it is not a formal meeting, there is not a council decision to be made, it's an opportunity for people to attend and hear what the policy changes are proposed to be and to provide input and feedback on that."
The idea of the proposed changes is to better reflect the concept of community sustainability as a fundamental principle in land use planning decisions.
The public information session is happening at the Colombo Club in Beachville on Tuesday night from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.
