A Woodstock Woman was duped out of cash while trying to buy a puppy online.
WOODSTOCK - Woodstock Police are warning the public about a new fraud making the rounds in the region.
Police were called after a local woman posted an ad on Kijiji looking for a puppy for her daughter. She received a response from someone in Halifax who said they had a Shih Tzu puppy for sale. The only catch was that the Woodstock woman would have to pay for shipping.
This turned out to be a scam and the Woodstock woman was told to make three separate cash instalments via Western Union to another woman in Tillsonbug. She paid the cash, however there was no puppy. A fraudulent cargo company also contacted the victim to confirm their system for payment was down so the victim should use the western union for payment.
Police are warning the public about online deals and to also be cautious when someone you don't know asks you to wire money.
