A stop train order was issued in Ingersoll this morning due to a railway crossing malfunction.
INGERSOLL - A railway malfunction caused some traffic headaches in Ingersoll.
Randi Crawford, the Media Relations Officer for the Oxford OPP, says someone called the Ingersoll detachment after they were waiting at a railway crossing for longer than usual this morning.
"We were notified this morning at around 7:45 a.m. that there was a malfunction going on with the railway crossings in Ingersoll. CN Rail and CP Rail were notified and they did issue a stop train order for the safety of the public."
Traffic was re-routed to cross the bridge in the west end of Ingersoll, but the situation has since been resolved.
Crawford explains what you should do if you have reason to believe a railway crossing is malfunctioning.
"Always best to try to find an alternate route rather than trying to take that chance and cross. The other thing to do is exactly what someone did today, call police and say this railway doesn't seem to be working, can you look into it?"
From there the OPP will work with railway officials until the issue is resolved.
#oxfordopp has been made aware of the railway crossings in #TownofIngersoll currently malfunctioning. There has been a stop train order issued by #cprail and #cnrail to ensure public safety. There may be delays around railway crossings until repired. Updates to follow. ^rc pic.twitter.com/XdTyPIyJ3L
