Remembering Charlie Tatham

A prominent former politician from Oxford County has passed away.

WOODSTOCK -  People in Oxford County are mourning the death of a longtime politician today.

Charlie Tatham passed away at his home in Powell River British Columbia on Wednesday. He was 90 years old. Before moving to B.C. Tatham was an iconic political figure in Woodstock and Oxford. He started out his political career as a city Alderman in 1956 and became the Mayor of Woodstock in 1957. He also served as the Warden of Oxford County from 1983 - 1985. Tatham also served as the MPP for Oxford County under the Liberal Peterson Government from 1987  - 1990.

Heart FM caught up with the former CAO of Oxford County Mike Bragg who says that Charlie Tatham really was a great man who loved his community.

"Well Charlie was a consummate politician wrapped up in a true gentlemen's cloak, he cared deeply about our communities in Oxford and he was well informed on local issues and how to get consensus on the multiple parties. When I head of his passing I had great sadness, yet recognition, here was a man who waited for nothing and had his own ideas of where life should end up."

Tatham is being remembered as a great politician in Oxford County and someone who loved his community. In Woodstock the Charlie Tatham Peace Park is named in his honour.
