County Council has denied a request to reinstate waste pick up for some private properties in Tillsonburg.
TILLSONBURG - Oxford County council has turned down a request, to reinstate garbage and recycling pick up at select private properties in Tillsonburg. A resident approached council with the request, bringing multiple facts about waste pick up in the city to the table. After the presentation, a majority of council members voted against the reinstatement. Tillsonburg Mayor Stephen Molnar says resident was asking for something that has already been done in the past.
"This wasn't about asking for something new. This was ultimately about a value added service that certain particular areas in the community of Tillsonburg had received and was then removed. This motion was about reinstating over a finite and shorter period of time while alternative solutions were potentially found. So I think it really spoke to bringing all sides to the table. It was not successful and unfortunately we'll move on from there."
Molnar adds that although the reinstatement was denied, the county always tries to deliver the best waste management services to its residents.
"This is the best the county has done in providing this very important service to all the residents of Oxford County. So let's not lose sight on all of the good things that are being done".
One of the private properties without waste collection services is 18 Balaz Court, which is located in the retirement community of Hickory Hills.
