All of the money will help local families who are experiencing financial distress following a cancer diagnosis.
TILLSONBURG - Registration is now open for the very first Running with the Bulls fundraiser in Tillsonburg.
Tamara Bull started it after her 28-year-old son Nathan Bull was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer last year. He was told that he had to seek expensive treatment in the United States, so the community stepped in to help and thousands of dollars were raised through a GoFundMe page.
Tamara now wants to give back to the community, so all of the money raised will be going to local families who are also experiencing financial distress due to a cancer diagnosis.
"It might be something as small as little Johnny can't play soccer because all of the money has to go towards his Mom or Dad's cancer treatment. For this family to have some kind of normalcy, I want little Johnny to be able to play soccer."
Families in need can apply to receive funds through Running with the Bulls online here, and Tamara says the money will be distributed within the year.
She says the first annual event happening on the Trans Canada Trail in Tillsonburg on Saturday July 20th.
"The first race is at 8:00 a.m. and it's a 10K. So we have a 10K run or you can also do a 5K run or walk. The 5K starts at 8:30 a.m. and there's a free 1K kiddie trot that starts at 10:00 a.m."
The run will begin close to Tillson Ave and it will take everyone out on the trail and back.
It costs $55 to register right now, but that price will increase to $65 on July 1st. You can register for the run online here and race kits will be available at Indigo Lounge Wellness and Eatery in Tillsonburg. You can also visit the Tillsonburg Running With The Bulls Facebook page for more information leading up to the event.
Tamara Bull stopped by the Heart FM studio to chat with Dan and Marcie on Thursday May 16th. You can listen to the full interview below:
