OXFORD COUNTY - School is back in session and OPP are reminding drivers to be mindful of buses on the road.
By law drivers travelling in both directions are required to stop when a bus activates its red lights and stop sign.
Constable Ed Sancuk tells HeartFM that drivers need to pay more attention on the road.
"Put the technology away, pay attention to their driving habits and not pass school buses. You know, you're putting their children at risk and, you know, one impatient driver could potentially cause an innocent person to loose their life."
Police say that whether you are travelling on a county road, city road or highway motorists travelling in both directions must stop.
Constable Ed Sancuk says fines for failing to stop can rage from $400 to $2,000 for first offenders, $1,000 to $4,000 for repeat offenders and a loss of up to 6 demerit points.
"Regardless of the demerit points and fines that are currently in place, you can't put price on a life, an innocent life at that trying to get to school and off the bus in a safe fashion."
OPP are urging drivers to pay more attention and make safety a priority.
