Residents of Woodstock were treated to some world class curling this weekend at the local club.
WOODSTOCK - It was a great weekend at the Woodstock Curling Club as they hosted the Ontario Men's and Women's Senior Provincial Championships.
The Bryan Cochrane rink from Russell ended up winning the men's side in a thrilling final that saw his team beat the Grant rink from Uxbridge 4-3. Cochrane tells Heart FM the team is looking forward to heading to Nova Scotia next month for the Nationals.
"Ya that would be fun, Ian's from down east, I hear it is a pretty fun spot to go and I know they have hosted the Nationals before and I have heard great things about it."
Grant meanwhile spoke to us before the big match and as you can tell they were pretty excited to play in the finals against the Cochrane rink.
"I have been working all my life to play in an Ontario final and you know what, today's the day."
On the woman's side Jo-Anne Rizzo and her Brantford squad will also represent Ontario at the Nationals with a 6-4 win over the Thomson rink from Paisley. Event Coordinator for the Ontario curling association Dave Hutchinson says they had been planning this event for over a year.
"I got together with the host committee over a year ago to start planning this event, it is a year process to get this going, Bob Axon and Murray Coulter are the co chairs of this event, they are great guys and a real pleasure to work with. Woodstock is a great community, they are fully supportive of their curling club and they have just done a wonderful job hosting this event."
