Environment Canada has upgraded the severe thunderstorm watch to a warning for Oxford and Brant County.
Scattered showers and a few thunderstorms have already developed this afternoon. Right now it looks like conditions are favourable for more intense thunderstorms to develop in the region that are capable of producing torrential rain of 50 mm or more. Brief strong wind gusts are possible too.
Severe thunderstorm warnings are issued when imminent or occurring thunderstorms are likely to produce or are producing one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall.
Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors!
