Desperately needed rain is on the way, but we could also be in for some severe weather. Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement today, warning of expected thunderstorms tonight. They say the thunderstorms may be "quite intense with the potential for damaging wind gusts and large hail in addition to the heavy downpours." They're also calling for "a spectacular display of frequent and intense lightning". The statement covers all of southern Ontario and they're unsure which areas are at greatest risk. For farmers looking for rain, the federal weather agency says 15 to 30mm are expected in most areas, with higher accumulations possible.
