The Special Investigations Unit is investigating an arrest in Woodstock.
WOODSTOCK - The Special Investigations Unit is looking into an arrest made by the Woodstock Police at the Quality Hotel and Suites Parking Lot.
Police arrested a 26 year old man inside a vehicle of interest around 2:30 a.m. on Sunday. According to a release from the SIU police attempted to arrest the man, and during the course of his arrest, the suspect suffered a hand injury.
The SIU has assigned three investigators to probe this incident. Also three subject officers and three witness officers have been designated as part of the investigation.
"The SIU is urging anyone who may have witnessed the incident to contact the lead investigator at 1-800-787-8529. The SIU is an arm’s length agency that investigates reports involving police where there has been death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault."
Under the Police Services Act, the Director of the SIU must:
- Consider whether an officer has committed a criminal offence in connection with the incident under investigation,
- Depending on the evidence, lay a criminal charge against the officer if appropriate or close the file without any charges being laid
- Report the results of any investigations to the Attorney General.
