County Council are getting a look at developing a plan to address the social, environmental and financial issues facing Oxford.
Oxford County Council is looking to develop an action plan that would guide decision-making on a range of social, environmental and financial issues-- including waste management and potential new landfill development.
The report coming tonight to council talks about developing a Sustainability Plan.
Warden Don McKay says the plan will be very community focused.
"The focus on that will be to ensure we are looking at economic stability, social well being and environmental responsibility so that we can create an official plan that will address these three issues rather than just simply looking at a land use planning document."
McKay says an Ad-Hoc committee will be established with each of the eight neighbour municipalities having a member who will be charged with developing a template for a steering committee that will come up with the plan.
McKay says they will be reaching out for community participation so that it really becomes an Oxford County, grassroots, community Sustainability Plan .
He says there's no question the proposed landfill discussions have forced the County to take a closer look at many things.
Council will be asked to provide $110,000 toward the development of the plan. $10,000 already approved in the 2014 Capital Budget and another $100,000 from the Corporate General Reserve.
