SWPH is encouraging everyone to get vaccinated against COVID-19 and the flu ahead of the holiday season.
WOODSTOCK - Respiratory illnesses are a focus for Southwestern Public Health.
As the holiday season is upon us, there will be family gatherings, which means the potential for viruses to spread.
SWPH is urging people to get the latest COVID-19 vaccine as well as the flu shot.
There will be a clinic at the health unit's Woodstock office located at 410 Buller Street from 9:00 a.m. 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. tomorrow, as well as December 15th, 18th and 29th.
Dr. Ninh Tran, Medical Officer of Health for Southwestern Public Health stresses the need for high-risk individuals to get vaccinated ahead of the holidays.
"Anyone over the age of 65, people who are pregnant, children under 5, and those who are immunocompromised should protect themselves from serious illness and hospitalization by getting vaccinated very soon. I don’t want you to miss any part of the festive season, and certainly don’t want you to be hospitalized if it can be prevented."
For the month of December only, anyone who attends for a COVID-19 vaccine will also be offered a flu vaccine.
There are many appointments available for anyone 6 months of age and older. It is recommended to wait six months between a previous COVID-19 vaccine or COVID-19 infection and a subsequent vaccine.
Appointments can be booked online here, or over the phone by calling the provincial booking centre at 1-833-943-3900. Do not call Southwestern Public Health directly to book your appointment.
