Up to 350 jobs could be created in Woodstock with a new Sysco Foods distribution facility formally announced. City Officials, along with Sysco's regional market President helped to make the announcement at city hall this afternoon. They'll build a 400-thousand square foot facility (rendering on right & at bottom) on 57-acres of land in the Commerce Way business park. It's a 2.7-million dollar land deal for the city. Mayor Pat Sobeski says it's not just good news for Woodstock. "They picked the location because 50 per cent of their trucks will go east, 50 per cent will go west. We're surrounded by London, Kitchener, Brantford and Stratford, so I'm sure the employment will go beyond the Woodstock area. So it's a good regional announcement." Rodney Stroud with Sysco says the facility should create 250-350 jobs. Stroud says, ?This reinforces our commitment to be our Ontario customers? most valued and trusted business partner. We are excited about the location, the surface-roads infrastructure, and the ability to serve our current customers and grow our business from a state-of-the-art distribution center.? Plans call for Sysco?s facility to have approximately 89,000 square feet of freezer space; 49,000 square feet of cooler space; 41,000 square feet of cold dock space; a 101,000-square foot dry warehouse; a 31,000-square foot dry dock; 17,000 square feet for material handling and equipment storage; and 67,000 square feet of office space. Construction will begin in the fall, and it should be ready by November 2013.
