The lights should be back on soon in Tavistock. That from Erie Thames Power after one of the major substations in the town took a direct lightning strike last night. 1500 homes and 50 businesses have been without power since early this morning. The good news is that only insulators sustained damage, and not the transformer itself. That means power should be restored by 5PM. It was a prolific lightning show that stormed through Oxford County, and surprisingly, Erie Thames President Chris White says there was only one major outage. Residents without power are advised to keep their fridges and freezers closed to preserve their food.
