The Thank A Trucker team will be handing out hot meals to truck drivers for free, every Thursday at the TA in Woodstock from 12-5 pm as a way to say thank you.
WOODSTOCK - Thank a Trucker Thursdays at TA Petro in Woodstock is going to continue throughout May
The first Thank a Trucker event at the TA Petro last Friday was a great success, with over 100 hot meals provided to drivers.
The Thank a Trucker initiative by NAL Insurance set up shop outside the TA Petro gas bar in Woodstock, aiming to provide support, awareness, and meals for drivers who are facing challenges on the road right now. Pizza was generously provided by Boston Pizza in Woodstock.
The group took pictures with drivers that stopped by, and used a hockey stick to “shake hands” in a socially distant way, as an expression of sincere gratitude to the drivers for their hard work and commitment to their jobs.
Aaron Lindsay, VP of Marketing at NAL Insurance says they just wanted to find a way to say thank you.
“We spoke to a lot of incredible drivers on Thursday, with many of them expressing how nice it was to finally be able to get some food while fueling up, with so many truck stops having to keep their restaurants closed right now.”
The team was also saddened to hear about some of the other scenarios drivers have encountered, such as employers placing portable washrooms outside the building for drivers, and not allowing them inside the building.
Lindsay says they want to support our frontline workers.
“It’s a difficult situation, as we of course need to keep our distance and practice proper hygiene techniques, but these drivers are real people who are spending weeks away from their families so that we can have the necessities to live such as food, fuel, and PPE equipment in hospitals, yet they are being treated so poorly in some cases.”
After receiving such a great response from drivers, the Thank a Trucker team will be set up at the TA Petro each Thursday in May, weather permitting from 12 am to 5 pm.
