211 is a social service directory that's available 24 hours a day for free, and it's completely confidential.
OXFORD COUNTY - This Sunday is not only Super Bowl Sunday, but it's also National 211 Day.
National 211 Day is always held on February 11th to shine a light on the social service directory.
Amanda Kreiger, the Resource Development Manager for United Way Oxford, says 211 is available online and over the phone, making it easily accessible for everyone.
"It's free, it's confidential, it's 24 hours a day, and it's in every community. So if my grandmother in Owen Sound needs help finding a walker, I can call 211 and find programs in Owen Sound for her."
She adds the service has been in Oxford County since September of 2010.
"United Way has invested in this for over a decade I think, but since the COVID-19 pandemic we have really tried to ramp it up because so many people need help and don't know where to find it."
Health was the top reason why Oxford residents reached out to 211 back in 2022, followed by information services, housing, individuals and family services, and food and meals.
Amanda Kreiger stopped by the Heart FM studio to chat with Dan and Marcie about 211 Day and Tampon Tuesday coming up next month. You can listen to the full interview below:
