It no longer belongs to the Town of Tillsonburg, but it might not disappear from the community's use. The Special Events Centre has been officially sold to Rick's Carpet Limited. But Mayor John Lessif thinks the buyers will continue to allow community events. He said, "It is appearing that it will continue to be used as a Special Events Centre. I don't know that for a fact, but the people who are purchasing it have indicated that they want to continue with holding special events out of that facility. So that's terrific in my view for the community." The building is home to many local events, including the Down Home Country Christmas and Extravaganza, a major fundraiser for the Tillsonburg District Memorial Hospital. The building sold for $600,000. The transaction is expected to close mid-October.
