The U14 Attack Girls are all smiles today after winning gold this weekend.
TORONTO - The Oxford Attack Under-14 Major Bantam Girls team won gold in the York South Silver Knights sanctioned O.B.A basketball ‘AA’ tournament in Richmond Hill over the weekend.
The Attack U-14 girls played their best game of the tournament in the final, stifling the Durham City Chameleon’s with their full court arrow zone press and half-court 3-2 zone defense en route to a suffocating 39-24 victory.
The Attack opened the tournament with a hard fought, defensive triumph against the Ancaster Blitz 26-22. The Attack nailed 2 key free throws late in the game to seal their victory.
Oxford won their remaining pool games against East York, 48-37, and York South Silver Knights, 33-25, by employing balanced lineups to prepare for their 3rd game of the day in the tournament finale versus Durham.
The Oxford Attack Basketball Club will have 10 teams competing in the Ontario Basketball Association again this season. These include 7 boys’ teams (U11, U12, U15 x 2, U16, U17 and U19) and 3 girls’ teams (U13, U14 and U17).
The Oxford Attack Basketball Club also hosted its first ever sanctioned O.B.A. tournament in January for its U14 Major Bantam Girls team. Seven teams from around the province from Niagara to Sarnia came to Woodstock for a 3-day, 4-game tournament. The Attack U14 girls struggled to a 1-3 record in their inaugural home sanctioned tournament against stiff competition but learned some great lessons throughout the weekend.
The Oxford Attack will also be hosting a sanctioned tournament for their U16 Major Midget Boys team on April 8-10, 2016.
