Back to school is around the corner and United Way Oxford is ramping up their fundraising campaign for their Supplies for Students program.
OXFORD COUNTY : Back to school season is upon us so United Way Oxford is ramping up their fundraising campaign for their Supplies for Students program.
The program helps families with their back to school shopping needs and United Way Oxford is hoping to raise more money for the cause.
Resource Development Coordinator Jennifer Belleth says each family in the program receives Staples vouchers.
"100 percent of those dollars goes into shopping vouchers for these families. This year we have the ability to provide a $35 voucher for those students in JK through Grade 6 and $50 is received for students in Grades 7 through 12."
Belleth tells Heart FM the program allows families to pick out exactly what their child's needs.
"The ability to choose what you need as opposed to being given items and seeing if it fits your needs is really the shift that we have made that we hope empowers the students even more. So it's empowering the student but I think through this program of calling 211 and walking into a store just like any one of us in the community to choose items; it provides that dignity, the sense of encouragement and the sense of choice that provides lots of encouragement to families too."
Families interested in the program can call 211 in order to find out if they are eligible.
If you would like to donate funds you can visit the United Way Oxford office at 447 Hunter Street in Woodstock. You can also donate online.
