The United Way of Oxford say they know they will not reach their goal, but they are still celebrating the giving spirit of the community.
The United Way of Oxford will likely not reach their goal this year.
Executive Director Kelly Gilson says although the community has been very supportive, they are not expecting to reach their very ambitious goal.
"We are projecting a shortfall - in fact at this point we know we will not make goal. However, we're still trying to do whatever we can to mitigate that short fall and get as close as possible because obviously the important piece is to have as many dollars available to help in our community as possible."
Gilson says donations are still coming in, so they hope to at least draw close to the 1.2 million dollar goal. "If they had been thinking about doing something for the 2015 campaign and just hadn't yet been able to do that we are still taking donations. Our campaign actually stays open through our fiscal year which is the end of March." Right now they are sitting around 89% of their goal.
Although they are fairly certain they will be short, Gilson says there is still a lot to celebrate. "Our volunteers work incredibly hard with us and for us to help with the campaign and you know, again, we have a very generous community. So we are going to celebrate all of that. We just want to try and do whatever we can to get as close to our goal as possible."
