The Wienerfest Home County Festival will be happening at the Woodstock Fairgrounds on Saturday June 24th and volunteers are needed to help make the event possible.
OXFORD COUNTY - Wienerfest is returning to the Friendly City and we're not talking about hot dogs...
As Canada's Largest Breed Specific Event, the purpose is to raise funds and raise awareness, so no pet is needlessly hurt, harmed, or killed.
Linda Sonnenberg, the coordinator of the Wienerfest Home County Festival, says patrons have a ton of fun stuff to look forward to this year.
"The wiener races, everyone loves the races. Bobbing for wieners, yogurt licking contest, and best costumes. There will be shopping and of course, a hot dog vendor selling food."
The festival is free to attend, but Sonnenberg says they are hoping to see lots of donations during the event.
"We just ask for donations at the gate. We know you're coming out to enjoy the day, so we don't want to gouge people by saying it has to be a certain price."
Sonnenberg says they desperately need volunteers for this year's event on Saturday June 24th to help make it all possible.
The event started because of Blue, a sweet dachshund who was rescued from a garbage can as a pup. He was unpurchased from a pet store that was going out of business. Instead of trying to find homes for the pets, they were instead tossed into the garbage with no thought as to their future.
