Donations are needed for the Supplies 4 Students Campaign, as students will be heading back to school very soon.
OXFORD COUNTY - It's back to school season in Oxford County.
United Way Oxford's Supplies for Students program helps families need, by giving them vouchers to shop at Staples. They will receive $35 for a child in JK to Grade 6 or $50 for a teenager in Grades 7 to 12.
Executive Director Kelly Gilson says this way the parents can make sure their kids get the specific supplies that they need for the school year.
"It gives the families including the children the opportunity to have the experience of back to school shopping. Just like our families; they go out, they buy what they need and they budget accordingly because there's only so many dollars to go around."
Supplies for Students helped 349 families in their first year back in 2016. That number doubled last year to 689 families.
Gilson says they're looking for donations to keep the program going this year.
"We're actually putting out a plea for individuals, workplaces, churches and other organizations. If you can do anything to help this particular program; we believe that we will double the number of families we can impact this year but we can only do that if people donate dollars."
You can donate online here. Donations will also be accepted at United Way Oxford office in Woodstock (447 Hunter Street) or at the local Staples stores in Woodstock and Tillsonburg.
