The Wildwood Conservation Area will be hosting a Fat Biking Demo on Saturday February 20th.
ST MARYS - The Wildwood Conservation Area will be hosting a Fat Biking Demo on Saturday February 20th from 10am til 2pm. Steve Sauder, Marking Specialist with the Upper Thames Conservation Authority tells Heart FM what you can expect to see at this event.
"We're going to have bikes there that have larger tires and rims than normal and effective even in snow. So we have teamed up with Totally Spoked in Stratford and they'll have free bikes to try. If you have your own bike you are welcome to bring it. If you have your own helmet, that works bring it but we also have helmets that we will be supplying as well. Everything is free of charge".
Fat Biking is a new sport in which you drive a pedal bicycle equipped with larger tires through soft terrian like snow or mud. Sauder says the demo is a great opportunity for those who are interested in the sport, to try it out.
"Here's an opportunity to try it completely free. If you don't have any of the equipment, there's people there that have done it, that can get you sized up and get you out and have a good time".
Fat Biking has been growing in popularity over the past couple of months. Sauder says Fat Biking was really popular at conservation areas last summer.
"A lot of people were using them last summer on the trails at Wildwood and Pittock. Just even when conditions were a bit muddy or there was loose debris. They say they're very stable even to go over a log through whatever kind of terrain. They're just more of an all terrian bike".
The demo will take place at the Wildwood Conservation Areas Visitors Center, which is located near the main gates. It is recommended that you dress appropriately because the event is snow, rain or shine.
