Donating your old, gently used work boots to the Women's Employment Resource Centre could help a woman start a new job
WOODSTOCK - If you have some old work boots sitting in your closet the Women's Employment Resource Centre could really use them.
Executive Director Maggie McDonald says they are looking for gently used work shoes they can give to women who need them for work but might not be able to afford them on their own. "A lot of women come in and they may have got a temporary job with one of the agencies in town and they require work boots to start the job - usually it's very last minute, 'I can start the job tomorrow, but I need work boots,' but they don't have the money to buy them."
McDonald says you do not need to be a member of the centre to receive boots. "It literally is we hand them over, they don't even have to be a client of the centre. So we'll have women who walk in the door that we've never seen before and we hand them over. To us, if we can get women in Woodstock working that's a plus whether we know them or not."
They are looking for all gently used boots. "Sometimes people start a job and buy work boots and then don't need them or we have people come in and say I just bought these but they just aren't comfortable - they definitely don't need to be new. And quite often we'll have insoles to put in," McDonald says.
You can drop donations off at 424 Dundas Street in Woodstock.
