A 16-year-old from Woodstock is headed to Scotland to compete in the Cowal Highland Games for highland dancing.
WOODSTOCK - The Cowal Highland Gathering is one of the most prestigious highland games in the world and a girl from Woodstock is going to compete.
Katherine Carnegie, a WCI student, has been dancing since she was 4 years old and has won many highland championships already.
Katherine's Mom, Sandra Carnegie talks about her achievements.
"In dance, we actually call it the Oscar. She won the Oscar for 2022, meaning that she has more championship wins in her age group than any other Ontario dancer. We were in Halifax for the Scott Dance Canada Championship Series. There were 980 dancers from across the world. She was competing in the Closed Canadian Championship. So that was only for the representatives of all of the provinces. And in her age group, she tied for ninth, so she placed top ten in the country."
Highland dancers come from all around the world to compete in this competition.
Katherine has even been invited to the Braemar Games which is attended by the royal family.
The games will be held next month at Dunoon, Argyle, Scotland.
