Woodstock Minor Hockey is putting on an event letting kids try hockey for free so they can experience the game and see if it's for them
WOODSTOCK - Woodstock Minor Hockey is inviting kids to give hockey a try.
Anyone between the ages of 5 and 14 can sign up for the Just Try It program where they will provide all of the equipment and ice time free of charge. Fundraising Rep with Woodstock Minor Hockey Fadel Zabian tells Heart FM they ran this program last year and the kids just loved it.
"A lot of them were interested, weren't sure what to expect, and the more we dressed them and the more we got through the day the more fun they had regardless of how well they could skate. We got a lot of positive feedback from the kids who really had a wonderful time learning how to play hockey."
Zabian says this is a great way for kids to try the game without having to invest any money into the equipment.
"After we get them dressed we put them through a warm up and we talk a little bit about what we are doing and then we send them on the ice at the Woodstock Community Complex and we put them at different stations; we will have adults there, coaches, and kids who are playing minor hockey to help them learn. At the end of the day we will put everything into a package for them and if they want to come back and try hockey they will have everything there free of charge for one year. 9 out of 10 kids or maybe even more than that love it and want to come back to play the next year."
You can sign up online until March 6th and the program will run all day on March 16th. You can find more information on how to register online HERE
