The SIU has found no reasonable grounds to charge the WPS after a man was injured during his arrest at the Woodstock Museum in March.
WOODSTOCK - The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) has decided to not charge the Woodstock Police Service after a man was injured during an arrest at the Woodstock Museum.
Police officers responded to a reports of a man assaulting a security guard at around 11:00 p.m. on March 14th. The responding officers recognized the man when they arrived on scene and knew he had a past with mental health issues.
Police say the man failed to listen to the officers and starting yelling at them to shoot him. The officers tried using their tazers but they didn't work, so the man was tackled to the ground and arrested.
He cut his face in the process and he was later diagnosed with a fractured left orbital bone at the Woodstock Hospital.
The SIU is called in whenever there is an incident with police that results in death, serious injury, sexual assault, and/or discharge of a firearm.
