Oxford People Against the Landfill asked Zorra Township to support a motion that demands Walker Industries carry on a series of information activities to keep everyone in the Township aware of what is going on in the EA process.
ZORRA TOWNSHIP - Zorra Township Council would like to be able to indicate support for the latest move on the landfill front.
Oxford People Against the Landfill asked council to support a motion that demands Walker Industries carry on a series of information activities to keep everyone in the Township aware of what is going on in the Environmental Assessment process.
Council agreed to look at the request through the eyes of their legal counsel. Mayor Marcus Ryan says they do not wish legal complications down the road where previous actions of council could be used against them.
"What I am struggling with is, when you get elected, you come to represent your residents views on council, but you also swear an oath when you sit on council and you have a job to do. We have a job description and there is constraints on how we do our job just like anybody and we have to do it properly. If we want the decisions we make to have teeth down the road and have real consequences we have to do it properly. I think council today made a very smart decision."
Mayor Ryan and the rest of Council expect a legal suggestion by the June meeting. The Oxford People Against the Landfill was disappointed with council's decision.
