Local businesses have until March 1st to apply for the Oxford County Tourism Innovation Grant. It's a $3,000 grant and two of them will be handed out this year.
OXFORD COUNTY - Tourism Oxford and Community Futures Oxford are teaming up to hand out a couple of grants to local businesses.
They have two $3,000 grants that can be used to expand or create a local tourism experience.
Development Officer Lindsay Wilson says you don't have to be a tourism business to apply.
"We did kind of similar concept last year and one of the winners was an artist, so not exactly a tourism destination, but she was able to develop a product."
Businesses that meet the eligibility criteria can apply for the grants now. Wilson says they are excited to work with Tourism Oxford again.
“Working with Tourism Oxford in the past has shown that pairing our tools and resources can be an effective way to support businesses and grow tourism in Oxford County. Providing interesting visitor experiences and having new tourism products available as people begin to travel more broadly again will give Oxford County a unique advantage.”
Oxford County Tourism Specialist Meredith Maywood says they're excited to see what the local entrepreneurs come up with.
“We know there are many excellent entrepreneurs and innovators in Oxford County. This grant will support businesses with unique ideas that can be implemented quickly to grow tourism in Oxford County. By providing a small amount of financial assistance, we will see new ideas come to fruition more quickly.”
Businesses that meet the eligibility criteria are invited to apply for the Oxford County Tourism Innovation Grant by March 1, 2022. The grant committee will then invite finalists for an in-person interview, following a thorough review and scoring of each application. Applications will be evaluated on creativity, innovation, feasibility, economic and community impact, as well as equity and inclusion.
