Big Brothers Big Sisters will host pop-up sessions in some of the smaller communities in Oxford County, in hopes of getting more youth off the waitlist for a mentor.
OXFORD COUNTY - Big Brothers Big Sisters is looking to engage more with the smaller communities in Oxford County.
The organization will be holding pop-up sessions once a month in hopes of finding mentors for some of the youth on their waitlist. Volunteer Recruitment and Engagement Coordinator Erica Hughes says they have one youth waiting for a mentor in Innerkip.
"So we have a 10-year-old boy who enjoys board games, joke telling, and playing pranks. If he had three wishes it would be for money, sweets, and a personal butler!"
Hughes says Big Brothers Big Sisters representatives will be at the Innerkip Tim Hortons between 9:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. today in hopes of finding him a mentor.
"We are going to be there so folks can come out and ask questions about mentoring. We want to set a presence in that community."
These pop-up sessions will usually take place on the last Wednesday of each month, and Hughes is hoping to be in Thamesford at the end of March.
There are currently 169 youth on the waitlist for a mentor through Big Brothers Big Sisters of Oxford County.
Erica Hughes stopped by the Heart FM studio for BBBS Oxford's monthly Waitlist Wednesday chat with Dan and Marcie on Wednesday February 28th. You can listen to the full interview below:
