Be Careful Around Rivers and Streams

The Upper Thames River Conservation Authority has issued a Watershed Conditions Statment today warning people to stay away from rivers and streams.

WOODSTOCK - The Upper Thames River Conservation Authority has issued a Watershed Conditions Statment today warning people to stay away from rivers and streams.

Communications Specialist Elenor Heagy says we got a lot of rain last night.

"The Thames Watershed got about 20mm of rain on average, the Woodstock area got between 20 and 30 mm, the further north you go in the watershed, they had more rain overnight especially, their was a quite a thunderstorm system that went through."

The UTRCA does not anticipate serious flooding at this time.

Residents are reminded to use extreme caution near all watercourses, and keep children and pets away. Ice is unstable and thin, streambanks are slippery and the water is very cold. Do not go on frozen flood control reservoirs.

Streams and rivers are expected to peak starting later Tuesday and into Wednesday. Water levels will remain elevated over the week. Temperatures are forecast to return to below freezing tomorrow, with additional rain and warming forecast on the weekend.
