60 kids are still waiting for matches at Big Brothers Big Sisters of Ingersoll, Tillsonburg, and Area.
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Ingersoll, Tillsonburg and Area have a big need for more mentors.
Currently they have 60 kids in this program without mentors. Mentors are also needed for their onsite programs, where they would meet up with a child at a school or library.
Resource Coordinator Heather Brekelmans says there are many reasons why a kid may be looking for a responsible mentor to provide a positive influence in their lives.
"So often it will be either the child in struggling with something that may have nothing to do with their family situation or everything to do with it. It could just be bullies in school or sometimes the school situation is more than any one child or family can handle".
Mentors and kids will often go out and do fun activities together. Brekelmans tells us that these activities can often make the mentor feel like a kid again;
"We'll take them snow tubing over the next month or so. It's stuff you wouldn't necessarily do unless you had a kid in your life. We also do things like Laser Quest, baseball games - depending on who you are as an adult there's all kinds of fun kid's stuff you get to go back and do and remember what it was like to be a kid again".
There are also many fundraisers throughout the year like Curl for Kids Sake. Businesses can also sponsor matches made at Big Brothers Big Sisters. For more details visit sharethefun.org
