The seldom used community centre will now offer more space for the expanding fire station in Bright.
BRIGHT - The Bright Fire Station is expanding into the community centre.
Right now the community centre sits adjacent to the fire hall and is used for people to rent out. However it has only been used 15 times over the past two years and the fire hall needs the extra space for all of its equipment. CAO Roger Mordue tells Heart FM the fire station is running out of room.
"The trucks are considerably larger than they were 30 years ago when the fire hall was built, they are running out of room and the community centre isn't being used very much anyways."
Mordue adds if residents need to rent out a community hall they can use the community centre in Plattsville which is just 4 kilometres down the road and has been recently renovated.
"It recently went through $4 million dollars in renovations at the Plattsville Community Centre and part of those renovations was the addition of the hall there; it's a similar size hall that is just 4 kilometres down the road that's available for rent that wasn't available for rent 5 years ago."
Mordue also says they would have had to do some major renovations on the hall in the near future if they didn't make this move.
"The community Hall isn't accessible - it doesn't meet the AODA requirements and in order for it to comply with the rules, it would need to be accessible by 2025, which would mean additional washrooms, accessible doors, ramps and all of this would be very costly."
