Deer running rampant in the region
It's the time of year when deer are running rampant in our rural areas.
But a deer incident in the town of St. Mary's early Tuesday saw a deer smash its way into a home and decor store.
A deer broke through a rear window of "The Castle Garden". The deer went buck wild in the store, knocking over merchandise before leaving, hoping over a fence and running towards a nearby park.
Police followed a trail of blood leading towards the river, but lost it after that.
Late Tuesday night, an Owen Sound ambulance hit a deer on Highway 23 south of Kirkton. The ambulance was on a patient run, returning from London Health Sciences Centre. The deer lost its life, and the damage was so bad to the ambulance, it had to be towed from the scene. The paramedics on board were not injured.
OPP say the best thing for drivers to do when a deer suddenly crossing infront of you, is not to veer. Swerving to avoid a collision increases your risk for serious injury.
