Civilians in Woodstock have a chance to learn what it is like to be a Woodstock police officer.
WOODSTOCK - The Woodstock Police Service is accepting applications for the upcoming 2016 Citizens Police Academy.
Those selected for the academy will attend classes on what it's like to be on Uniform Patrol, an inside look at the Criminal Investigation Bureau and Intelligence Section, Community relations, Forensic Identification, and a demonstration from the K-9 Unit and officer Striker. Constable Nikki VanLeeuwen says this is a great opportunity for anyone in the community with an interest in policing.
"This is for anyone from our community that wants to learn more about the police service, you have to be over the age of 19 and you can't have a criminal record because we will be doing a background check but those are the only stipulations."
She adds Participants will also have the opportunity to accompany an officer on a 4 hour ride-along to get a firsthand look at the front lines of crime fighting.
