Local MP Dave Mackenzie shares his thoughts on Kevin O'Leary and what he is looking for in the next Conservative leader.
The Federal Conservatives have announced the date they will select the next leader of the party to replace interim leader Rona Ambrose.
Conservatives will elect their leader on May 27, 2017. Local MP Dave MacKenzie tells Heart FM he thinks Ambrose is doing an excellent job as interim leader.
"I look forward to someone who will be a team leader and Rona Ambrose is an excellent person and I do wish that Rona wasn't the interim leader because it takes her out of the running to be leader because I think she is a great leader and she has worked hard to bring the team together."
Mackenzie says he is really concerned about the current state of our economy under the Liberal government and that the next leader of the Conservatives will need to focus on the economy and should follow the lead of the previous Conservative government.
One name that keeps floating around for the potential leadership nod is celebrity businessman Kevin O'Leary. Mackenzie shares his thoughts on a possible O'Leary leadership campaign with Heart FM.
"I think first off, I would have to know if he was really planning on it, doesn't matter who it is there's going to be good and bad, the things Kevin O'Leary is known for would be a negative for some and a positive for others but I would be neutral, I wouldn't be opposed to him but I wouldn't be in favour of him and I think we need to see who is out there and interested in the job."
