Oxford County Council has given it's stamp of approval for a six-storey apartment building on the corner of Wellington Street South and Main Street in Woodstock.
WOODSTOCK - It looks like a six-storey apartment building will be added to Woodstock's skyline.
County Council approved an application for the building on the corner of Wellington Street South and Main Street on Wednesday. It's going to offer 50-residential units.
Warden Larry Martin says not everyone was in favour of the development.
"It was not a unanimous decision. The planning department recommended it not be granted and there were some that felt the planning department was possibly correct. But with housing the way it is, the majority felt that if we could get this started, then maybe we're getting more housing and that is what we require."
The County planning department was against the project because the zoning in the area doesn't allow for buildings over four-stories high. Martin says this developer originally submitted a proposal for an eight-storey building, but it was turned down so they returned with the six-storey proposal.
Someone could still file an appeal against the project, but Martin believes it will continue to move forward.
"I'm pretty sure this will go ahead now. It's just a matter of them getting things on the go and getting started on it."
