A new brewery setting up on Bysham Park Drive has a local focus and wants to keep things as close to home as possible.
WOODSTOCK - Craft beer enthusiasts soon won't have to travel outside the Friendly City to quench their thirst.
A new brewery called the Upper Thames Brewing Company is setting up on Bysham Park Drive.
Secretary-Treasurer for the company Moe Morris says they are passionate about keeping a local focus. "The main reason is Woodstock's lack of craft brewery. We wanted to be the first and Oxford County's only. The second reason is four of the five partners are all raised here in town. And we want to support and build within our own community."
They will be putting their money back into the local economy by keeping things as close to home as possible says Morris. "Our goal is to outsource as much of our product locally within the county as possible. Right now we are talking and negotiating with a hop supplier and we are open to any other farmers that would be able to produce and supply either wheat or barley to us."
Morris says they will be trying their hands at a variety of different tastes. "We're going to be producing a number of styles and flavours from simple Scotch Ales, English Ales, all the way up to the hoppier Indian Pale Ales. Also stouts and porters, dark beers. We'll also be experimenting with different lambics which are sour beers, which are really nice during the summer."
If all goes according to plan they hope to be in operation for June 1st on 225 Bysham Park Drive in the city's north-east end.
