Woodstock City Council holds their next meeting tonight, and there is a huge item on the agenda. A motion has been put forward to have councillors vote against a Consumption Treatment Site.
WOODSTOCK - The consumption treatment site debate will return to Woodstock Council Chambers.
Councillor Mark Schadenberg's notice of motion will be on the floor for discussion during tonight's meeting.
He's asking his fellow councillors to not support a site opening in Woodstock, and to support the creation of a campus of treatment services for addiction, mental health, rehabilitation, and transitional housing instead. You can the full motion in tonight's council agenda online here.
Tonight's meeting will begin at 7:00 p.m. and it will be livestreamed on the City of Woodstock YouTube page.
This has been a hot topic in the Friendly City ever since Southwestern Public Health released a report earlier this year that recommended a consumption treatment site open in our community.
The city hosted a public input meeting about it on September 26th. It was about four hours long and included over 20 delegations, with 15 residents sharing their concerns regarding the potential site.
