Ed Sanchuk with the Norfolk OPP says close to 600 people have been charged with impaired driving during the Festive R.I.D.E. campaign so far.
NORFOLK COUNTY - It's New Years Eve, so it's going to be a busy night for police officers across the globe.
The Norfolk OPP is reminding everyone about the dangers of impaired driving. Acting Sergeant Ed Sanchuk says OPP officers have busted a lot of drivers over these past few weeks.
"I'm absolutely shocked and astounded at the number of people that still get behind the wheel while they're impaired by alcohol or drugs and put all of our safety at risk. So far during the Festive R.I.D.E. campaign, nearly 600 people have been charged with impaired driving offences and over 200 additional drivers have received a roadside suspension and a warning."
If you're going anywhere tonight, make sure you have a safe ride home if you plan on consuming drugs or alcohol.
Sanchuk says OPP officers will continue to conduct R.I.D.E. programs day and night even after the holiday season. If you spot someone who you believe is driving while impaired, you should call 911 immediately.
As #Ontario prepares to ring in the #NewYear, choose to do so safely and responsibly. Welcome 2022 by making the smart choice to plan ahead have a designated driver. If you do get behind the wheel, #DriveSafe and #DriveSober. Wishing everyone a safe and #HappyNewYear. pic.twitter.com/RQuopb6pbV
