Flu Claims Life

Four confirmed cases of the flu in Oxford County

OXFORD COUNTY - The flu has claimed the life of one person so far this season in Oxford County.

Public Health is reporting four confirmed cases, saying there are likely more.

The virus strain confirmed in all cases is influenza A H3N2, and is spreading quickly throughout the Country. Of the four confirmed cases in Oxford County, three were adults aged 65 or older, with one of those cases now fatal.

Public Health say the best protection is the flu shot and while it's not a perfect match with this strain of the flu, it will still offer up to 40 percent protection.

The flu shot can take up to two weeks to provide immunity, so the sooner you get it, the sooner you’re protected.
