VON Oxford will be hosting the 21st annual Hike for Hospice in Roth Park on Saturday September 16th.
WOODSTOCK - VON Oxford is getting ready for the 21st annual Hike for Hospice.
Fund Development Coordinator Alison Neeb says it's happening on Saturday September 16th in Roth Park this year.
"You can register for free and make sure you put in your t-shirt size as well. It's for all ages and we're going to have the course set up so it's 1 kilometre, 2 kilometres, or 5 kilometres. So you can walk, hike, or run if you want to."
Registration will begin at 9:00 a.m. that morning and there will be a special tribute ceremony at 10:00 a.m. for those who have had their friends or family members in hospice. The hike should begin at 10:30 a.m. and there will be a barbeque lunch at 11:30 a.m. before everything wraps up at 1:00 p.m.
Committee Chair Cassandra Benard says all of the money raised will be going to Sakura House.
"Sakura House is a 10-bed hospice here in town and it's completely free to use. We fundraise to keep it open, but it allows your friends and family to visit and for you to just enjoy the remaining time that you have instead of focusing on things that shouldn't be a concern at the end."
Last year's event managed to raise over $100,000 for the hospice. When you combine all of the fundraising efforts over the past 20 years, the Hike for Hospice has raised a grand total of $1,200,000 in Oxford County.
You can register for the Hike for Hospice online here and those who raise over $250 in pledges will receive a gift card from a local business of their choice.
Alison Neeb and Cassandra Bernard stopped by the Heart FM studio to chat with Dan and Marcie on Wednesday August 23rd. You can listen to the full interview below:
