The push to put in an off leash dog park in Ingersoll took another step forward as they presented their proposal to council.
INGERSOLL - The Ingersoll Off Leash Dog Park Committee has submitted their proposal for a new dog park to council.
They were at the council meeting on Monday night and are hoping to have a new park installed on the Lawson Trail by next October. In the proposal they promise to raise $5,000 for the park over the next couple of months and the Town has already committed $5,000 to the project. Committee co-chair Daryl Countryman says they will also need to find volunteers who are willing to help clean up.
"So we are looking at a volunteer initiative to go in with hand tools in August to cut down all of the small trees."
Council was supportive of the off leash park and they received the deputation as information. Mayor Ted Comiskey says the Town made it clear from the beginning they were not going to commit a lot of money for this project and commends the community members for stepping up.
"And what came forward was they had a phenomenal amount of community members coming together, joining a committee, making it work, coming up with thoughts and ideas, coming up with where they could have it, fundraising for it. Again it's community involvement, community decision, and I am behind it 100 percent."
Countryman says the committee will meet again at the end of the month and start fundraising and the next step is to purchase and install fencing for the park.
