
ISAN Oxford is hosting a memorial for missing and murdered indigenous women on Red Dress Day.
(Woodstock) - Join ISAN - Indigenous Solidarity & Awareness Network- Oxford as it hosts its annual Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and Two-Spirit People (MMIWG2S+) Memorial event.
May 5th is now known by the name Red Dress Day, the National Day of awareness for MMIWG2S+. A day recently proclaimed by the City of Woodstock.
ISAN oxford is gathering in Museum Square to remember these people, to hold space for collective grief, and to amplify the calls for justice.
This comes in response to the ongoing national crisis, highlighted by the National Inquiry, showing how Indigenous women, girls, and 2S+ people are statistically 12-16 times more likely to be murdered or go missing than non-Indigenous women in Canada.
Shania Simmons a member of Atlohsa's anti-trafficking network will be the special guest speaker.
