Police say they were following a court order in Norwich Township and it had nothing to do with MAID.
NORWICH TOWNSHIP - The Oxford OPP is setting the record straight when it comes to a video that's circulating online.
Officers were called out to a home in Norwich Township on Friday, under the authority of a valid court order related to a family dispute involving the care of an elderly individual. They say no enforcement action was taken and they were only there to enforce the court order, all while ensuring the safety and well-being of everyone.
The OPP does not issue or ammend court orders, and those who question the legal authority of a court order should contact the Ministry of the Attorney General.
In a video posted on the OPP West Region X page, Sergeant Ed Sanchuk addressed some misinformation that has been spreading online.
"To be clear, the court order is not related to, nor does it involve Canada's Medical Assistance in Dying legislation (MAID). Police do not have any role in authorizing, administering, or facilitating MAID and any comments or claims suggesting otherwise are completely false."
He also encouraged everyone to refrain from speculation due to the sensitive legal and personal circumstances surrounding the case.
The OPP will not be release any further details on the matter because it involves private individuals.
