The latest Heart FM News Poll asks, have you been following the Artemis II mission?
MOON - It was a moment that will forever go down in history.
Canadian astronaut Jeremy Hansen and his Artemis II crewmates completed their lunar flyby yesterday. They looped around the moon using a free-return trajectory, which allowed them to see the dark side of the moon with their own eyes. They also got to witness a total solar eclipse.
The experience was livestreamed online, but the lunar surface did block radio signals while they were circling around. This resulted in a communications blackout for about 40 minutes.
Artemis II also broke the distance record set by Apollo 13, travelling 406,771 kilometres (252,756 miles) from Earth. The flyby also brought them within 6,545 kilometres (4,067 miles) of the lunar surface.
Artemis II is now on its way back to Earth, scheduled to splashdown in the Pacific Ocean off San Diego on Friday.
