Ingersoll Council is attempting to block approval regarding the Terms of Reference for the Walker landfill proposal.
INGERSOLL - Ingersoll Council has sent a letter to the Minister of Environment requesting to block an application for a landfill in Ingersoll.
In the letter -- sent by the town's solicitor to M.O.E. Minister Glen Murray-- it requests the minister deny the Terms of Reference submitted by Walker Environmental Group. Two other alternatives are proposed if the Minister chooses to approve the T.O.R.. Suggestions include mediation and forwarding unresolved issues to the Environmental Review Tribunal.
Ingersoll Mayor Ted Comiskey wants to take a step back before going any farther in the application process, "Let's before we accept or condone or permit the environmental assessments to be undertaken through the terms of reference, that we first address some of the issues surrounding the landfill itself."
The letter also calls into the question the legitimacy of the location being proposed for the landfill. Carmeuse has an existing rehabilitation plan in place for the quarry, according to the letter a landfill at this site would currently be illegal and in violation of Carmeuse's aggregate licence.
Comiskey said there have been several concerns brought to the table.
